Nichols Silver Colt Prototype
w/No Scrollwork

Pictured is an extremely rare Nichols Silver Colt. This cap gun is an early Nichols prototype of the Silver Colt before the ornate scrollwork was added. This cap gun shows NO SCROLLWORK - as every other Silver Colt. Few of these prototypes escaped the factory and are known to exist. Gun has been cap fired, operates correctly, has red grips with no cracks and few spots of finish loss. It has a small piece of pot metal missing by the screw on the right side.

Nichols Mustang 500
in Stallion 45 MK II Box
This is the very rare Nichols Mustang 500 cap gun in a Stallion 45 MK II box. Cap gun experts believe this was produced after Nichols merged with Kusan in 1965. The Mustang 500 is in excellent condition and functions correctly. The original plating is uniform over the entire cap gun showing very few spots of finish loss. This model has an unusual set of brown grips that contain no chips or cracks. The rarely seen box is what makes this set such a unique part of Nichols history. It's believed because of a surplus of Stallion 45 MK II boxes, the extras were used for Mustang 500 cap guns. Stickers denoting Mustang 500 info were applied to the top and both ends of the Mark II box. A silver insert was glued to the inside of the box lid hiding information describing the Stallion 45 Mark II (didn't even change the gun insert). In addition, this Mark II box has no split corners and still retains nearly 100% of its very fragile paper hinge. Overall, an extremely rare set in excellent conditon. Very few boxes are known to exist.

Nichols Stallion 45/Dyna-Mite

This is the rare Nichols Stallion 45/Dyna-Mite Derringer combination boxed set which was produced in very limited quantities. The guns are Mint unfired and function as intended. The Stallion 45 cylinder rotates with each pull of the trigger or hammer and the finish is excellent. The left grip has a small crack in the bottom. The box is in excellent shape and still has most of the fragile hinge attached. The outside sticker is excellent showing very little wear but the insert has some splits and fading. Sometime during the life of the box, the bottom was punctured and re-inforced with a piece of cardboard inside. Hard to find set.

Nichols Stallion 45 with 2 Piece Tex Tan Box,

Here is a Nichols Stallion 45 cap gun with the HTF Tex Tan 2-piece box, bullets and service policy. Tex Tan formed a relationship with Nichols Industries. During this time, Tex Tan purchased cap guns from Nichols and re-packaged them in their rare boxes. The Stallion 45 is in excellent condition. It operates correctly and the cylinder turns with each pull of the trigger. The finish is very nice and the grips have no cracks or breaks. The bullets are in good condition and included is an original service policy. The rare 2 piece box is in excellent overall condition and has nice graphics. The box is solid except for one corner on the top and bottom halves is split.

In 1965, near the end of the Golden Age of Cap Guns, Nichols Industries was purchased by Kusan Inc. Talley Nichols (co-founder of Nichols Ind.), stayed on for a few years and helped Kusan make some very high quality cap guns, including these. Shown below are the three very HTF guns making up the complete Nichols/Kusan Collectors Series - Spitfire, Stallion 45 MK II, and Model 61 - all in a shadowbox. Finding one of these if hard enough, but to find all three is very rare.

Nichols/Kusan Stallion 45 MK II in Shadowbox

This Nichols/Kusan Stallion 45 MK II is NM/M - never been out of the shadowbox. The finish and scrollwork are prisitine. This cap gun actually uses the Nichols original 2 piece bullets (not included). The most distinguishing feature of the cap gun is its irridescent grips, which appear somewhat cloudlike at a distance. Kusan kept the world famous Nichols circle "N" logo, but molded it into the grip. The shadowbox is NM from being shrink wrapped. The box dimensions are 14 1/2 in. X 9 1/2 in.

Nichols/Kusan Model 61 in Shadowbox
Extremely Rare
Here is the extremely rare Nichols/Kusan Model 61 in the Shadowbox. This is another NM/M cap gun that's never been removed from the box. The finish is near perfect. The black grips contain the silver Nichols circle "N" logo. The shrink wrapped shadowbox is NM and measures 13 in. X 9 in. There are very few known examples of this rare Model 61 - much less one in this condition.

WJ Murphy "Notch - It" Cap Guns

The WJ Murphy Company designed the “Notch-It” holster series. They purchased cap guns in bulk from several manufacturers, including Nichols, Hubley and Kilgore. The Nichols cap guns were purchased unfinished and without grips. The WJ Murphy Company then finished the cap guns usually in the blue/black finish. They installed specially designed wood grips for the cap guns and put them in their own holsters. Included in the set was a little key chain pocket knife that the young cowboy would use to “notch” his grips after taking out a bad guy. This holster set with wood grips and pocket knife is what led to the name “Notch-It”. Any of the following would greatly enhance your collection.

WJ Murphy Nichols Colt Special

This is a WJ Murphy Nichols Colt Special cap gun. It is in NM condition having never fired any caps and functions as it should with a strong snap to the hammer. The cap gun shows minute areas of finish loss noticed mostly on outer parts and edges. There are no chips or cracks on the grips. Included is a gun sleeve made specifically for this Colt Special.
